Most of this album was written, recorded and produced during the infamous ‘lockdown’ of 2020/2021. I had plenty of time (obviously) and so was able to record myself playing all the instruments and singing all the vocals, which was fun and did my mental health a lot of good!
I am grateful for the help I received: my wife Susan who patiently listened to take after take of various vocal parts and contributed some harmonies on ‘Homebird’. My friend and musical mentor, Ian Boardman, who played moody, ethereal guitar and nailed the drum programming on ‘Cymbaline’ and added an iconic ‘Motown’ style riff on ‘To love and be loved’. Ian also painstakingly mixed and remixed my recording sessions (‘This land’ went through so many transformations from Zeppelin-like rock ballad to Floyd-ish epic) until they sounded ‘just right’ – I am forever grateful to both of you! As always, Sage Audio in Nashville worked their magic on the mastering and many thanks to Francis Fitzgerald who took the brooding cover photo.
